“Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.”  Ephesians 3:20 & 21

God is able to do more than we can ever measure (add up) beyond our imaginations and far beyond what we ask.  He is able according to His power that is at work within us.

Key phrase   “according to His power that is at work within us”

Questions:  As time goes by, does God’s power grow more powerful in us?  Do we get all of His power to use at one time?  Is it up to me to allow Him to use His power through me?  The answer is “yes” to these questions.  It all goes back to that keyword “According”

The definition of according is: “to bring into agreement;  to be consistent or in harmony with”[1].  Thus in order for God to do exceedingly abundantly above all we ask or think, we must be in agreement with Him!

An old hymn says:

 “All to Jesus, I surrender

All to Him I freely give.

I will ever love and trust Him

In His presence daily live.”

 “I surrender all”

I surrender all

All to thee, my blessed savior

I surrender all”[2]

How does one acquire this power?  First of all, one must accept that Yeshua (Jesus) died, was buried and rose again on the third day.  He died for everyone, but it is up to us to accept and believe.  Not only do we need to accept the atoning work of the cross, but we need to be fully surrendered to Him and His workings in us.

  • It is according to our obedience.
  • It is according to His power at work within us.

Yeshua is the Word and He lives in us and is manifested in us by the Spirit of God.  If He is not glorified in our lives, then we are living by our own power, not the Power of God.  To Him is the glory forever and ever!  Another old hymn written by Albert Osborn states it this way:

“Let the beauty of Jesus be seen in me

All His wonderful power and purity

O thou Savior divine, All my nature refine

‘Til the beauty of Jesus be seen in me.”

We do not have to understand the “why’s” we only need to know the “wherefore’s”.  His Power is at work within us and we can expect, plan on and look forward to, His wonderful and glorious answers to come through us ALL for His glory.  None of our selfish selves should be concerned about us.  As long as we are obedient to His teachings and instructions, we can expect, through faith, the glorious results.

Be blessed
